Keeping our stations, trains and customers safe
We want you to feel safe when you travel with us, and we work closely with the British Transport Police (BTP) to help keep our stations and trains secure. You can also play an important role in keeping yourself and others safe when out and about on the network. For more information on how the BTP work to keep you safe while travelling with us, visit: Travel safely by rail | British Transport Police
Personal safety and security
You can help by always keeping your luggage and personal belongings with you at stations and on board the train. Please watch out for other people trailing luggage.
Please take care when moving around stations, particularly on wet or icy days, or when lots of people are pulling bags behind them. Whilst on station platforms please stay behind the yellow line and take care when boarding and alighting trains – stepping gaps and heights vary from station to station.
On boarding the train, it’s always good to look at the safety information, as each of our trains may be different. If you notice anything suspicious, like unattended luggage, please remember: See it, Say it, Sorted.See it, Say it, Sorted
This campaign, led by the British Transport Police, encourages everyone using the rail network to report any unusual items or activity on the railway.
If you see notice anything suspicious, like unattended luggage, inform a member of staff or contact the British Transport Police on: 0800 40 50 40 or text on 61016. In an emergency, always call 999.Working with the British Transport Police
We work closely with the BTP to ensure our stations and trains are safe. You'll often see them at our stations, travelling on our trains or hosting various Crime and Security events across our network, which give customers the opportunity to ask questions and learn about safety and security.
BTP’s 61016* text service offers the travelling public and rail staff a means to contact us directly and discreetly, in order to report non-emergency crime.
*Your mobile service provider may issue a small charge to text 61016. The exact cost will depend on your network and tariff.
Always dial 999 when you need an urgent police response:
- A crime is happening
- Someone suspected of a crime is nearby
- Someone is injured, being threatened or in danger
Keeping our stations and trains secure
Our stations and trains are monitored by CCTV and are accredited by the Secure Station Accreditation. Our stations also have help points where you can speak to us or report any suspicious activity. All help points are covered by CCTV, so staff answering the calls will be able to see you.
You can report vandalism or damage on our trains or at our stations by informing a member of staff, pressing a help point or by contacting Customer Relations on 0345 600 1671.CCTV and body cameras
All of our trains, stations and car parks have CCTV systems, which means a safer environment for our customers and staff.
Some of our staff also wear small body cameras to help secure you and improve their personal safety, as well as use for evidence with prosecutions.I want to...
