Taking your bike on the train
If you are travelling with a bike, we offer secure cycle storage facilities at our stations that take the hassle out of having to take your bike with you. If, however, you need to take your bike on the train, you’ll need a reservation. These can be made as little as 15 minutes before you travel.
How to book bikes onboard a train
If you'd like to bring your bike on board with you and it doesn’t fold, you’ll need to book a space for it before you travel.
There’re several easy ways to book:
• Log into My Account, select Bookings and then select 'Make a seat / cycle reservation'
• Book when you buy on our website
• Visit the booking office
• Tweet us @TPEAssist
• WhatsApp us on 07812 223 336
You can book a cycle space up to 15 minutes before you travel, but it’s best to book early as space on each train is limited.
If you’re travelling with a folding bike you don’t need to book. Please make sure you fold your bike before you board, then store it in one of the luggage stacks or between the seats. Please don’t leave your bike in the vestibules.
The bike storage area is clearly marked on the outside of the train, but if you can’t find it ask a member of staff for assistance.Bike restrictions
Bikes may not be allowed to board if the train is exceptionally busy (part of the National Rail Conditions of Travel.) Our Bike Policy outlines alternative arrangements we can make to get you where you need to go. You can download a copy of our cycle policy here.
Please note, during periods of planned engineering work affecting TransPennine Express services we are unable to guarantee passage of bicycles on rail replacement vehicles.
Electric bikes are permitted on board as long their space is booked in advance. Charging of electric bikes is prohibited on our trains.Bike sheds
You'll find free-to-use Bike Sheds at most TransPennine Express managed stations. They’ve all got secure racks and CCTV monitoring as standard and some have extra features including tool stands, cycle hire and repair services to keep your bike in tip top condition.
We've recently added over 500 new cycle parking spaces across our network and we’re set to add more, making it easier than ever to park your bike at the station before you catch the train. The full list of facilities available at each of our stations is included in our Bike Policy.
Not travelling from a TransPennine Express station? You can check out the cycle storage facilities at National Rail Enquiries - PlusBike.Travelling by e-scooter
E-scooters are not permitted on our trains or within our stations. This is due to concerns over the fire safety threat that e-scooters and other lithium battery powered personal mobility transport devices can pose.
