Luggage, buggies and four-legged friends
Luggage on board
You’re welcome to bring luggage on board any of our trains and we run regular trains to Manchester Airport and major connecting destinations.
Luggage racks are available on all trains and are ideal for storing larger bags
Overhead racks above your seat are perfect for cabin bags and smaller items
Don’t block aisles or doorways with your bags and please don’t place them on the seat next to you or in the designated wheelchair areas
Keep your luggage in sight at all times and remember to take it with you when you leave the train (although we do have a lost property service for when mistakes happen!)
Never leave luggage or personal items unattended at stations. Unattended items will be removed without warning and may be damaged or destroyed
Bikes and e-scooters on board
We are committed to supporting customers who do not wish to drive to our stations.
Bikes and e-bikes are allowed on board as long as you've booked a space for them. Find out more.
E-scooters and similar devices, like hoverboards and e-skateboards, are not permitted on board due to safety concerns. Find out more.
Buggies on board
You’re free to travel with buggies and prams on any of our trains and we look forward to welcoming mini passengers on board for their first railway adventure!
There are 2 places to store your buggy on board:
- Luggage or overhead racks – please fold your pram or buggy down and store in the luggage or overhead racks available, making sure that doorways and aisles remain clear. You should aim to do this on the platform (before the train arrives), particularly when boarding busier services.
- Designated cycle area – you may store your pram or buggy here unless it is needed by cycle users. Even if there is space when you start your journey, there is a possibility that a cyclist may reserve the space and board the train mid-journey. In this scenario, they must be given priority access
View our train seating plans for more information.
Pets on board
If your perfect travel companion has 4 legs rather than 2, you’ll be pleased to hear that you can travel on board our trains with your pet – free of charge.
You can bring up to 2 dogs on the train and they must be kept on a lead for the duration of the journey
Smaller animals must be kept in a pet carrier
Pets must not sit on tables or seats – we ask this for the comfort of other passengers travelling without pets
Guide and hearing dogs are welcome on board too and staff will be happy to support you if you need assistance
Luggage or overhead racks – please fold your pram or buggy down and store in the luggage or overhead racks available, making sure that doorways and aisles remain clear. You should aim to do this on the platform (before the train arrives), particularly when boarding busier services.
